Our track record with barbecue weather isn’t a good one, unless you want heavy rain, freezing cold, hailstones as big as charcoal briquettes and snowstorms. We’ve spent many an hour in the warmth of the kitchen watching Noel flip soggy burgers on the garden grill.
In anticipation of the glorious weather of the past fortnight breaking all over our barbecue, we put up a gazebo, salvaged from a now-demolished garage. It was its first time out and it only just fitted our tiny garden, spilling over into the raised beds and flower beds at a jaunty angle.
And yes, we did need it to protect us from the weather, the blazing sun that kept on blazing as the guests arrived and tucked in. What went wrong? Where was the rain? Nowhere to be seen – ha ha ha, how we laughed!
Sadly, all good things come to an end and that included the food and beer, so it was time for the gazebo that went up, to come down, with a little help from our friends.
